I was born in
Switzerland in 1960. After completing my studies in engineering, I
left home to travel the world. Having visited a few countries in Europe, I made the jump to the African Continent in 1980. Spending some months in Egypt, I got restless again. When the borders between Egypt/Israel opened in April 1980, I moved to the Sinai Peninsula, at the time still occupied by Israel. In Dahab, then called Di Zahav, I made my first diving course and became immediately hooked to the beauty of the Red Sea. From August 1982 onwards I managed the only Diving- and Surf Centre in Dahab. more |

In April 1987
I arrived in the Maldives to work as diving instructor for a season . On
Fiha-Lhohi in the South Male Atoll, the best time of my diving career began. Having been spoiled already from the corals of the Red Sea, the abundance of marine life stunned me and I became an ambitioned UW- cameraman. A second season followed, which turned nasty when I was taken hostage by Tamil Tiger rebels fighting the security forces during an attempted overthrow in Male, capital of the Republic of Maldives. After recovering from multiple injuries I returned for a third and last season to depart in peace from this beautiful underwater paradise. |

Once settled
down again permanently in Sinai in 1989, I worked on various projects
over the years, building diving centers in Sharm el Sheikh and Dahab. (Camel D.C. Sharm, Subex Sharm, Shark's Bay Sharm, Nesima Dahab etc.). At the same time I continued building work on my house in Dahab, and got myself a car. In 1995 I left Sharm el Sheikh, as it had become too commercial for my taste. I settled in Dahab again, mainly because of the relaxed atmosphere, the friendliness of the people and the good weather. Besides Dahab is very well located for all kinds of activities like desert trips or diving safaris. |
