Dahab is a natural
Delta, created by the flood sands from
Wadi Dahab and the southern hills. Corals eventually grew reefs, and by doing so reinforced the waterline and constructed a solid, even ground. Over the millennia Dahab has grown to a beautiful oasis with a large lagoon with sandy beaches. click on pictures to enlarge and return. |

Dahab is already
mentioned in the bible in
Deutoromy 1:1 as "Dizahab". Excavations in "El Mashraba" in 1987 revealed an nabatean harbor from the first century BC. Dahab was already populated in Moses times and was an important crossroad and harbor for the transport of people and trade across the Gulf of Aqaba to Midian and to south and north. |

Until 1982 Dahab was
known only by Hippies und travelers as
substitute for all those, who couldn't make it to Goa in India. A small community of people from all over the world lived in the Bedouin Village, today called Masbat. The local bedouins lived in Assalah, at the time off limits and tabu for strangers and foreigners. more |
