In 1972-73 the settlement of Di-Zahav was established by the Israeli
government whilst occupying the Sinai peninsula. Some time later the first diving center was added and since then people dive in Dahab. Until 1987 this was the only filling station and school. Eventually diving tourism increased and today there are probably more than forty dive centres operating in Dahab, spread all over this little town. Most of them are multilingual, so there is no problem to find one that suits your expectations. |

The
Red Sea and Gulf of Aqaba belong to the top ten dive
destinations worldwide. The abundance and variety of corals, the countless species of fish and shells, the forms and shapes make it difficult to find words to describe this beauty. Even after 20 years of active diving in these waters I still come across an unknown species every now and then, not to be found in any book. Of course the impact of diving tourism is clearly visible to me underwater, but it is still a very beautiful coastline to go diving. |

Unlike many other diving destinations most of the dives in Dahab are
done from shore. Due to the steep reef walls on most sites and the prevailing north wind it is not possible to moor because of the great depths. Divers and equipment are transported by pickups and jeeps, giving you the opportunity to enjoy an open air ride through the desert landscape of the southern Sinai. Remote dive sites, which are not accessible by cars, are reached on camelback, tanks and equipment being carried by extra camels. |

Underwater video- and photographers should take extreme care about their
equipment, as all dive sites are on sandy beaches and therefore quite dusty! One corn of sand on an o-ring seal and your housing and camera are literally down the drain, electronics boards eaten away by the aggressive salt water! |
